Level 3 Award in Coaching for Team Leaders & Managers

The ILM Level 3 Award in Workplace Coaching for Team Leaders and First Line Managers aims to provide practising and potential team leaders and first line managers with the knowledge, skills and confidence to perform effectively as workplace coaches as part of their normal role.

The Award in Workplace Coaching for Team Leaders and First Line Managers is a concise qualification made up of three mandatory units which introduce the key aspects of coaching in the workplace.

Course structure

  • Minimum 24 guided learning hours which include attendance at the modules listed below:

Mandatory modules

  • Understanding good practice in workplace coaching - participants assess their own ability to use a variety of interpersonal communication skills when giving effective feedback to learners.
  • Organising workplace coaching – monitoring and recoding learner progress
  • Undertaking supervised coaching in the workplace

Membership benefits

As ILM registered learners, all candidates receive student membership to the ILM free of charge. This provides access to ILM’s learning resources for one year. This includes access to books, journals and articles for continuing professional development.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements but participants will be practising team leaders or first line managers.

  • Work based assignments
  • Coaching diary

The ‘Certificate’ level of qualification is also available on request and would include the following module:

  • Undertaking an extended period of supervised coaching in the workplace
