Called in to assess team working skills and further improve team performance within the Estate & Facilities Management Service (EFMS), SIA Group identified potential barriers before working with the team to develop and implement an action plan to address these.
The need for change was identified and coincided with suggestions by the Higher Education Funding Council that universities were paying insufficient attention to management and in particular team working issues.
"I immediately saw potential in the SIA Group's Team Performance Diagnostic for the job in hand, having become aware of its use within the University of Westminster as a result of being referred to SIA Group by the Interim HR Director there, Jean Harrison. At Middlesex University I had already recognised issues that we needed to address and when I heard about how the University of Westminster had improved team dynamics from the use of the TPD, I decided to get in touch with SIA Group."
SIA Group's tried-and-tested TPD maps performance across 13 key indicators and Natasha Bennett says "anyone can immediately relate to and understand how important they are in creating a good team working environment. Use of the TPD isolated specific areas for improvement, leading to offsite meetings for the team to consider what they needed to do to become even stronger. Change doesn't happen overnight and the departmental manager knows that this process is going to take at least a year or two. All the signs are that the whole team are committed to it, which is great to see."
"SIA Group are also working with one of our School Senior Leadership Teams and making great progress in supporting them with their change agenda. SIA have met and even exceeded my expectations," she concludes. "Working with their consultant helped the teams feel more valued, the facilitation helped the team achieve much more than they would have done and the level of information received from the TPD represented great value for money!"
SIA Group's Liz Bennett, Director of Consultancy, People Development, says of SIA Group's work with the University of Middlesex: -
"The way we work engages and involves team members, helping them understand they often share the same problems and are working towards common solutions; a realisation that alone often increases morale and renews team spirit. It will be great to support these teams in driving through their changes to the benefit of the University, the teams and the individuals themselves".
SIA Group achieves Institute of Leadership & Management (ILM) Approved Centre status and has a variety of options for accredited and assessed learning programmes.
SIA Group joins together with the Institution of Mechanical Engineers - the fastest growing professional engineering institution in the UK.
