Please complete this short questionnaire. The 13 paragraphs (A-N) below contain statements that correspond to 13 key team performance indicators taken from the SIA Team Performance Diagnostic Tool (TPD).

You will receive a sample TPD report identifying perception of your team performance benchmarked against organisational norms. You will also receive a free electronic copy of SIA Group's recently published book 'The 13 key performance indicators for highly effective teams' for further comparison against UK industry research and statistics.

Team Performance Indicators

Score each statement between 1 and 10 according to how you perceive your team performance in relation to the statements below.

Team members understand both their own and other's roles within the team. Team members are prepared, and have the flexibility to help each other. Work is allocated according to individuals' capabilities and skills. The team have the right level of expertise.

The team has a well-communicated purpose, and objectives are clearly defined. Team members fully understand their own objectives and the way in which they can contribute towards achieving the team's goals. There is a good balance between time spent on both planning and doing.

Team members trust one another and are happy to share information, feelings and confront any issues that may arise. Conflicts and disagreements are usually resolved successfully.

Team members co-operate, communicate, listen and support each other. Team member relationships are strong. Team members give each other appropriate and useful feedback aimed at improving individual and team performance.

Team members have access to individual and team learning and training. Knowledge, skills and competence are developed. Time is spent on team development ensuring that team members work together effectively.

Relationships and communication channels between the team and other parts of the organisation are very good. The team is viewed positively by individuals and other departments.

The style of leadership and management contributes positively towards team motivation. The team are provided with both support and direction. Communication and feedback between management, individuals and the team is good.

Processes and procedures contribute towards helping the team to achieve its objectives. Unnecessary or unwieldy processes have been stripped out, and/or processes have been appropriately streamlined. Processes are modified appropriately in response to changing circumstances.

Productivity in terms of both quality and quantity is good. Customer feedback is good to excellent. Individuals take responsibility for their own objectives. Team targets are often achieved or even exceeded.

There is a strong team spirit and a feeling of belonging within the team. People enjoy working in the team and have fun. Even when the pressure is on there's a strong team spirit which helps to keep individual and team stress levels lower than they might otherwise be.

Team members are equipped with the resources necessary to enable them to carry out their role. Team members have the freedom to make and implement decisions within the remit of their role. Team members have the opportunity to contribute towards wider decisions which affect the whole team.

The team is open to change and continuous improvement. There is a healthy culture of regularly and rigorously challenging the way things are done and new ideas are often surfaced. The team are aware of and use a variety of creative thinking techniques in their discussions and meetings.

This team makes good decisions and the decision-making processes are sound and rigorous. There is consultation of team members outside the management team when appropriate. Decisions are usually made in good time. The team are adept at tackling challenges that could effect overall achievement.
